This has been a very long week. Every time we have transfers and preparation day is moved, the next week just seems like it drags on forever! Just puts you out of the normal rhythm of missionary work and you gotta get back into it. So, new companion, new information for ya. My new companion is Elder Coppieters (Co'-pee-ters, just kind of ignore the i in the middle of his name) and he is from Brigham City, Utah. He just graduated high school this year and came out right after that, so he is 18. He has a huge family of one older sister and one older brother who just got back from his mission on Monday, so they won't see each other for four years, and you think two is bad! Didn't play sports in high school, but is a crazy computer genius and built three computers before he came out on his mission, so he knows a lot more about that than I ever will, and he wants to be a computer scientist when he gets home from his mission. He's doing well for only being here a week, and training is always just so much fun! :)
But now on to the week. I can't even remember what has happened because so much has happened. We've been meeting with a ton of our investigators and have been making really good progress with them all, especially Brad. He is doing crazy well, had intensive surgery on his foot on Friday, came to the ward picnic we had on Saturday and played frisbee there, and then was at church with his bloody foot on Sunday. That's some serious dedication there if you ask me. We met with him a few times, talked about the gospel, talked about Kirtland which he wants to go to, talked more about the gospel, and then also had family home evening at the Fishers on Monday with s'mores. He is doing really well and really wants to work towards the 16th of September, so we are going for it with him. We did some service at his place emptying out his basement because it flooded a little bit, and got rid of a bunch of crap. It was fun though.
We had a ward picnic on Saturday and surprisingly for the end of July it wasn't hot at all. It was probably mid 70's with a nice breeze all day, so compared to last year when we had a heat advisory it was a much welcomed difference. Had some good food, had quite a few investigators show up, so it was all really good.
We've still been able to find a few people to teach the last couple days, and we received a referral which doesn't happen too often here in Alliance! Her name is Lynn and we went over to meet her and take her the Bible that she requested. Long story short, she is going through some hard times and is looking for more in her life. We talked to her about the Book of Mormon and how it is similar to the Bible and she said that she would start reading it. We went over again last night to see how her reading had been going and if she had been able to pray about the Book of Mormon, and she read through a few pages and had prayed about it. She said that she felt something she had never felt before as she was reading and praying and knew that it was from God, and that as she was reading she had no desire to smoke for that time. She is currently working on quitting smoking, and for that brief time while she was reading she didn't even want to smoke. There is so much power in the Book of Mormon it's crazy! Gotta love it.
We are going to the temple tomorrow with Cassidy Fisher and the recent convert that the sisters in our ward have to do baptisms, so that's going to be a ton of fun! There will be some pictures next week from it, so you can plan on some for next week as well. It's gonna be good. Also sending some pictures from transfers and Kirtland last week, me and elder Amparan in front of our blue car, and me and Elder Coppieters on his first day. So now you can see how blue the car really is.
Love, Elder Woodward
